Doc Wayne’s sport-based group therapy program, Chalk Talk®, engages youth by harnessing the power of sport! Our coaches use soccer, basketball, flag-football, and other team sports to support students as they process and persevere through adversity.

Chalk Talk® is a mobile service. Doc Wayne coaches travel to the communities our students live in to ensure they can access the program. Sessions are provided on-site at a school or community center’s gym, field, or another comparable space.

As student’s progress through Chalk Talk®, they will:

  • Have the opportunity and needed supports to become resilient and regulated individuals with positive adult and peer relationships
  • Create positive relationships with teammates, friends, and family members
  • Become confident and competent members of their schools and larger communities
  • Achieve their highest level of academic success

Students, ages 5-18, participate in weekly group therapy sessions which focus on a variety of social-emotional learning and life skills. Groups are made up of 8-12 students and led by a licensed clinician as well as a Master’s level intern.

Doc Wayne is pioneering the mental health field with this mobile, sport-based outpatient service. Chalk Talk® provides an engaging and accessible outlet for youth facing a variety of behavioral and emotional challenges.
