Meet our clinical staff

Whether you’re new to therapy or looking for a change of pace, Doc Wayne’s team of licensed and license-eligible clinicians are here to support you on your mental health journey. Our clinicians employ a variety of therapeutic methods—including CBT, Trauma-Informed Care, and Family Systems—that are tailored to meet your needs.

Karen Rathjens, LICSW

Clinical Supervisor

I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with a specialization in working with children, adolescents, and young adults. I am passionate about incorporating sports and movement into the work that I do when clinically indicated to do so. In addition to the individual counseling I provide, I have extensive experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including educators, medical professionals, and athletic staff, to create cohesive, client-centered care. I also enjoy providing trainings and mentoring team members and fostering a culture of continuous learning. I’m committed to building resilience, emotional intelligence, and strength in my clients.

Life transitions can be exciting, but they often bring stress, anxiety, or a sense of overwhelm. Whether you’re navigating a career change, relationship shift, grief, aging, or simply striving for more balance, I provide a safe and supportive space to explore your challenges and build clarity and confidence.

I help individuals reconnect with their purpose or discover it for the first time while embracing strengths and pursuing meaningful goals. My approach combines clinical insight with intuitive guidance, drawing from CBT, DBT, ACT, SFBT, and Mindfulness. Together, we’ll work toward your “flow zone,” a space where life feels more balanced and energized.

I work alongside you to deepen self-understanding, nurture emotional well-being, and create strategies for growth and change. If you’re ready to step into your flow zone, I’d be honored to support you on the path to greater peace, balance, and fulfillment.

Caren Hunter, LCSW

Fee-for-Service Clinician

You’ve been working hard to keep up with life’s demands, but something still feels off. Maybe your energy feels drained, your focus is scattered, or your body is sending signals your mind hasn’t fully caught up with yet. You want to better understand yourself—how your physical rhythms, environment, and emotional well-being all influence one another. You’re ready to explore new ways of moving through challenges so you can approach life with clarity, strength, and a renewed sense of possibility. You want to feel stronger, calmer, and more capable of handling whatever life throws your way, while honoring the whole person you are.

As a clinical social worker, I combine talk therapy with practical tools from CBT, mindfulness, and movement. I focus on the connection between mental health, education, and physical well-being to help you reconnect with your body and mind—so you can boost energy, focus, and resilience, and move forward feeling grounded and in control.

Taking the first step toward change can be daunting—but you don’t have to do it alone. I’ll meet you with warmth, curiosity, and respect for your unique story. Therapy with me is active and collaborative, a space to explore, grow, and deepen the mind-body connection as you build balance, resilience, and strength for the path ahead.

Daniel Millner, LMHC

Former Senior Director of Clinical Services

Daniel Millner, LMHC, is Doc Wayne’s Senior Director of Clinical Programs, providing leadership to the clinical department at Doc Wayne and overseeing multiple programs including Chalk Talk®, Therapeutic Recess, and The Community Clinic. In addition to sport-based therapy, Dan integrates a focus on Family Systems Theory as well as narrative, relational, and behavioral approaches into clinical supervision and program development.

Glimar Rodriguez-Parilla, LICSW, LADC-1

Fee-for-Service Clinician

Glimar’s practice is grounded in cultural humility and a whole-person approach. As a professional with lived experience and training as a recovery coach, she leverages her recovery journey to foster empowerment and resilience in her clients. Her holistic, client-centered approach aims to support individuals in making informed decisions and achieving sustainable well-being. Individuals that benefit from these approaches are those who are motivated to engage in self-reflection and are committed to addressing patterns that no longer serve them. With empathy and understanding, Glimar meets each individual where they are at.

Glimar integrates the SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment) model and draws from evidence-based frameworks such as Motivational Interviewing, Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

We all need a safe space to explore the uncomforts, barriers and unknowns of exploring and achieving change. This can be achieved one step at time and you don’t need to do it alone! Think of the therapeutic journey as an investment in self.

Starting therapy can feel daunting, but I am here to make the process feel more approachable. Together, we will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you and focus on what matters most, helping you get what you truly hope for from therapy. You are not alone. I work with individuals and couples facing a wide range of challenges, from life transitions to emotional overwhelm to relationship concerns. Together, we’ll explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck and build greater clarity, resilience, and connection.

Using a relational approach grounded in attachment theory, Internal Family Systems, CBT, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Imago, I offer a supportive and nonjudgemental space where clients can grow.

I approach therapy from a systemic lens, understanding that our early experiences and relationships are deeply connected to how we see ourselves and relate to others today.

Matthew Heerema, LMHC

Fee-for-Service Clinician

I’m a licensed mental health counselor experienced in helping adults manage depression, anxiety, substance use, and PTSD. I take an empathic and integrative approach to therapy, meeting you where you’re at, addressing the goals that you set for yourself, and selecting therapeutic strategies based on your needs. I use cognitive/behavioral methods, motivational interviewing, humanistic and existential approaches, psychodynamic theories, and harm reduction for substance use. Theories aside, I believe that acceptance, love and courage heal.

In addition to working as a psychotherapist, I am a researcher and educator at Boston Medical Center’s Grayken Center for Addiction Training and Technical Assistance and have a weekend job/hobby as a florist.

I offer counseling online, with availability in the evening and early morning during the week, as well as most Saturday mornings. If you think we might be a good match, I invite you to reach out to chat!

An ideal client for me is someone seeking a genuine therapeutic connection that supports their personal growth. You may feel you’re not performing at your best in certain areas of your life—but that doesn’t mean you’ve reached the end of your potential. I work with clients who are navigating physical challenges, emotional hardships, childhood trauma, and the process of rebuilding after injury. My goal is to help you find strength, clarity, and renewed confidence as you move toward the life you want

I work with adults looking to recover, grow, or move beyond a limiting standard in their lives. Whether the challenge is emotional, physical, work-related, or performance-based, I provide support and guidance to help you progress with confidence.

If you’re looking for support and a therapist who truly fits, I welcome you to reach out. There’s no perfect formula in therapy, and I encourage you to explore what feels right for you. I’m here to offer a safe, grounded space as you discover the connection that helps you grow.
