Rebekah Roulier, LMHC, serves as Executive Director of Doc Wayne, an award-winning nonprofit recognized for its innovative approach to sport-based therapy and commitment to expanding access to outpatient mental health care. A clinician, former NCAA Division I student-athlete, and longtime advocate at the intersection of sport and mental health, Rebekah brings more than 15 years of clinical, operational, and strategic leadership to the role. She was unanimously appointed Executive Director by Doc Wayne’s Board of Directors in 2026 after previously serving as Managing Director.
Rebekah began her journey at Doc Wayne in 2011 as a coach during the organization’s early days when it operated as a therapeutic and competitive athletic league within residential treatment programs. Drawing on those formative experiences as both a clinician and coach, she has played an instrumental role in Doc Wayne’s evolution and growth, helping to design and expand several of its most influential initiatives including Chalk Talk® Sport-Based Therapy, Kids & COVID, and The Champions Network®.
Throughout her tenure, Rebekah has helped grow Doc Wayne from its roots in sport-based programming into an organization offering a broader continuum of mental health services. Today, Doc Wayne provides sport-based therapy; outpatient mental health services for youth, adults, and families; and training for practitioners globally. As Executive Director, Rebekah is focused on strengthening clinical excellence, expanding access to compassionate and effective mental health care, and building partnerships that help Doc Wayne reach more individuals and communities.
Rebekah is a contributing co-author of the published study Re-Envisioning School-Based Counseling: Sports-Based Group Therapy for Elementary School Students Exposed to Trauma which supports the clinical impact of Doc Wayne’s approach. She also contributed as a member of the Expert Panel for the National Mental Health Guidelines for Youth Sports, bringing her experience at the intersection of clinical mental health and sport to a national effort focused on supporting the mental well-being of young athletes.
A lifelong athlete and advocate, Rebekah is a former two-sport NCAA Division I student-athlete and college soccer coach. Her experience in sport heightened her awareness of the mental health challenges athletes and young people can face and inspired her to pursue clinical training. She earned both an Ed.M. and CAGS in Counseling with a sub-concentration in Sports Psychology from Boston University’s Wheelock College of Education and Human Development. She is also a graduate of the Institute for Nonprofit Practice, formerly known as the Institute for Nonprofit Management and Leadership at BU’s Questrom School of Business, and holds a National Diploma from United Soccer Coaches.
Rebekah’s work has been recognized locally and nationally. In 2018, the City of Boston honored her with the Mayor Martin J. Walsh Youth Advocate Award for her dedication to youth mental health. In 2019, she received the inaugural Young Alumni Award from BU’s Wheelock College and was selected as an Upswell Fellow through a program supported by The Barr Foundation and focused on developing diverse leaders committed to equity and social justice. In 2024, the New England Revolution recognized Rebekah as its “Hero of the Match” during the club’s inaugural Mental Health and Wellness Match, celebrating her leadership, compassion, and innovation in the mental health field.
During Rebekah’s tenure, Doc Wayne has also earned national and international recognition for its innovative approach to mental health and sport including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Sports Award in 2015 and the Beyond Sport Sport for Health Award in 2016 for the development of its DBT-informed Creating Champions® curriculum.
Rebekah’s voice and expertise have been featured in numerous media outlets, including WCVB’s Chronicle, Boston Business Journal, NBC10 Boston, Boston Herald, Youth Today, Authority Magazine, and the Hartford Courant. She also enjoys sharing insights on mental health, well-being, and sport through podcast appearances including Next Steps Forward, Xraised, and One Big Boat.
Rebekah values cross-sector collaboration and has contributed to global initiatives including Different. Just Like You, a collaborative publication by the Red Cross and Light for the World promoting inclusion and dignity for people with disabilities through sport.
Outside of her work at Doc Wayne, Rebekah finds joy in spending time with her husband and four children, especially outdoors.
