Daniel Millner, LMHC

Senior Director of Clinical Programs

Daniel Millner, LMHC, is Doc Wayne’s Senior Director of Clinical Programs, providing leadership to the clinical department at Doc Wayne and overseeing multiple programs including Chalk Talk®, Therapeutic Recess, and The Community Clinic.  In addition to sport-based therapy, Dan integrates a focus on Family Systems Theory as well as narrative, relational, and behavioral approaches into clinical supervision and program development.

Dan joined Doc Wayne in 2024 after having worked in the field of mental health and addiction treatment for 18 years.  Dan was the Clinical Director for 5 years at the Addiction Treatment Center of New England, which runs an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) and an outpatient addiction program. He was Clinical Director for 7 years of a shelter-based Structured Outpatient Addiction Program (SOAP) serving individuals experiencing homelessness at the Pine Street Inn on the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital campus.  He has also worked as an intern, clinician, and Clinical Director in multiple residential programs in the Department of Youth Services (DYS).  In his early career, Dan provided in-home family therapy and office-based community mental health counseling for various agencies.

Having worked with many individuals that have experienced trauma and addiction, he has developed an understanding of the importance of compassion, safety, and establishing a strong community of support and recovery around those who seek help.  Knowing that systemic barriers and inequity often either cause or contribute to a person’s suffering, Dan strives to focus on social justice in an effort to alleviate that suffering.

Dan’s leadership style is collaborative and inclusive, yet decisive.  He applies a systems approach to administration and program development, and understands that regular feedback from staff, teammates, and external stakeholders is essential to advancing the mission of Doc Wayne.  Dan believes that the most effective leaders are those who recognize and promote the strengths, expertise, and skills of those around them.

Dan holds a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Boston College and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University.   He played soccer in high school and rowed on the club crew team at Carnegie Mellon.  Currently, Dan is an avid skier, rock climber, runner, and outdoor enthusiast.
